šŸ‚ What’s New: Our Fall 2025 SkillBuilderĀ® Update! šŸ‚

Sarah Flesher

Dear SkillBuilder community,

Welcome to the October edition of our newsletter! As the leaves turn and we settle into the final few months of the year, I’m excited to share with you what’s new at SkillBuilderĀ®, highlight some of the great work our team is doing, and give you a few pointers to help you get the most out of our products and services.

This fall, we’re doubling down on innovation, on supporting our customers’ evolving needs, and on lifting the voices of our team.

We’re also expanding our support across the entire lifecycle of developing learning programs, from planning and design to development and implementation. Many times, organizations we work with have secured funding or have a learning need but are unsure how to translate their ideas into a fully realized program. If this sounds familiar, our team can guide you through each step, helping turn your vision into an effective, scalable learning solution for employees or external audiences.

We strive to partner with organizations to create effective learning experiences that ensure compliance, strengthen culture, and enhance employee satisfaction, because a well-trained workforce drives safety, engagement, and growth.

Thank you for being part of the journey with us. As always, please reach out if you have ideas, feedback, or just want to chat about a new learning challenge.

Now, grab a coffee (maybe add some pumpkin spice to it!), and enjoy the tidbits in our newsletter.

Learning Resource Development – What’s New!

This fall, our team continues to focus on the role of AI in our work, microlearning, and personalization. Artificial intelligence is streamlining course development by automating the creation of quizzes, simulations, and bite-sized learning modules, while microlearning remains the preferred format for quick, focused skill-building. But we’ve also learned and feel very strongly that AI can’t be used for everything, especially if your content is proprietary. As soon as an AI tool is integrated into the workflow, that information becomes public… even the meta data of a document, which is often forgotten.

Our recent work also focuses on telling stories. We’re huge proponents of scenario-based learning. Using scenarios helps learners apply knowledge in realistic, job-relevant contexts. By simulating real-world situations, scenarios encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, allowing learners to safely practice skills before applying them on the job. This experiential approach boosts engagement, builds confidence, and leads to stronger skill retention and performance outcomes.

SkillBuilderĀ® Technologies – What’s New

Our SkillBuilderĀ® technologies are empowering learners in their learning journey. SkillBuilderĀ® LMS is a platform built on proven principles of competency and adult learning science. We’re helping our customers understand that adult learners thrive when they have control over their learning journey and engage better with the content when the training meets a specific need.

What’s new?

Skill Check Learning Item

We had hinted that a new Learning Item was coming soon in our last newsletter. Well, the time has come! Administrators can now create and complete on-the-job skill checks. A skill check is a structured evaluation used to assess how well an employee applies newly learned skills in their actual work environment. It typically involves observing performance against defined criteria or checklists to confirm competence and consistency. These assessments help ensure that training translates into real-world proficiency and measurable results.

New Supervisor Role and Hub

We’ve introduced a dedicated page (or hub) for users with the new Supervisor role. When a learner is assigned a supervisor, that person can easily view the learner’s progress, completions, upcoming and expired learning, and all completed skill checks.

Account Anonymization for Marking

In some cases, you may not want your evaluators to view the names of the individuals they are grading. Administrators now have the option to anonymize learner identities when an evaluator scores assignments or exams.

šŸ”„Hot Tip!šŸ”„

Consider incorporating ā€œmicro-practiceā€ quizzes after each of your eLearning modules.

One of the best ways to cement learning is through spaced retrieval. After every major module, insert a 2- to 3-question micro-quiz to prompt recall. This not only reinforces retention but also helps you spot weak points early and send remedial content.

For customers using an LMS like SkillBuilderĀ®, a handy trick is to set up a delayed release of these micro-quizzes, via dynamic rules and branching logic, so learners are nudged automatically. If you want help including these in your courses, our team is happy to assist!
