Updating & Improving Training

The Challenge

The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) had an immediate need to retain health records from previous learners, and quickly develop and deliver new SCORM compliant Personal Health information training to three types of health system decision-makers.

They knew they needed to change LMS providers and re-develop the course to increase interactivity. Because learning content differed among stakeholders, there had to be group restrictions on who could access what content, and administrators needed role-defined restrictions to meet privacy rules in different jurisdictions. And all this needed to happen in 7 weeks!

The Solution

To ensure the consistency of the validity of the new course, the logical flow of learning within the new course was developed to match the flow of the old course. The graphics, including interactivity, as well as the self-assessment were maintained using the Storyline authoring tool.

SkillBuilder® Learning Management System allowed us to customize the registration and certification process to allow for integration with employee IDs from each of the 8 stakeholders.

Finally, SkillBuilder’s software developers analyzed and cleaned up the historical user database received from NLCHI. We ensured that required records were maintained, while cleaning up or discarding confusing or redundant data.

The Results

Within the tight time frame required, the SkillBuilder team bridged the gap from the old to the new training program for NLCHI, provided group-based restrictions, and kickstarted a new three year partnership with a health care provider on the “Rock.”
