Economic Developers Alberta Customer Success
Economic Developers Alberta (EDA), a not-for-profit association, supports economic development activities in Alberta by providing resources and professional development opportunities. Learners can pursue professional certification through the training opportunities offered by EDA.
EDA chose SkillBuilder® to create online asynchronous versions of their hybrid and in-person courses to be hosted and delivered on SkillBuilder® LMS.
The Challenge
Previously, some of EDA’s curriculum was offered through the local university, and they wanted to offer an alternative delivery option. In addition, many learners lived in rural areas and needed more accessible learning options. They also needed an LMS that hosts, and tracks both active and inactive students who have earned credits or certificates.
The solution
The SkillBuilder® team worked closely with EDA’s content experts to produce five online courses that could be accessed by learners from anywhere. These new courses implemented curriculum changes that weren’t yet present in their original hybrid or in-person offerings. We also helped design print materials (case studies and manuals) that adhered to their specific branding and style.
The coursework was designed with different audiences in mind, from practitioners pursuing economic development as a career to municipal elected officials looking to acquire a deeper understanding of economic development.
The results
EDA uses SkillBuilder® LMS to deliver online courseware to learners all over Alberta. They use the LMS to register new students, track their progress, and allow learners to connect with peers using discussion forums.
By partnering with SkillBuilder®, EDA was able to successfully offer additional learning options to existing and aspiring practitioners seeking economic development certification in Alberta.
